What is a "property lawyer"?
A property lawyer is a solicitor who specialises in the act of conveyancing. That is, to transfer the title of ownership of a property from one party to another party.
There are other people, called licensed conveyancers that can also do this work. There are arguments for and against using licensed conveyancers. Many prefer to use a fully qualified lawyer to do this work.
One of the main things to be aware of is that your mortgage company may only be willing to deal with a fully qualified lawyer in respect of your porperty purchase.
At the end of the day, moving house is a stressful enough experience without something going wrong with the legal aspects of the transaction.
